A good day for favorites today; can't believe some of these winning margins, but
there you go…it happens, I guess. Remember, post positions are listed first,
placings are listed in the middle of the line. I tweaked the spreadsheet I use
for racemeets and it did help me get through this a lot faster! If anyone would
like to see it, or see how I run races, just let me know and I'll forward you
the files. :-)

1. Maiden 3yo 1400mT 500 euros---200/150/100/50. Weights: colts 133#, fillies
127#. Winner: GS Nasongi RUS, 2004 grey colt (Perun x Nyet Nyet Nanette, Negam)
O/T: Heather Rauschenberger. B: Golovko Stud, Russia.

PP Name & info Place Spread Steward's Notes
2 GS Nasongi RUS (HRA) 04c/up @ 1(11) by 6 "Comfortable just behind the
pace, wove through traffic to top of stretch when he burst free and opened up a
lead to wire."
11 GS Makenakaya RUS (HRA) 04f/up 2(11) by 3 "Pressed, kept on through
stretch but no match for stablemate."
1 Shifting Sands USA (JPU) 04c/up 3(11) by 2 1/2 "Ran toward rear on rail,
found a hole midrace and charged through, closing the gap late."
7 Voleur Espagnol [IRE] (BGU) 04c upl 4(11) by 1 1/2 "Forced to set a very
quick pace, flattened out and passed in stretch but jockey's heavy urging kept
him going to wire."
4 GS Makazhoy RUS (HRA) 04c/pl 5(11) by 1/2 "Pressed, obviously tiring late
but held on to 5th gamely."
8 Djax FR (CCT) 04c/UR 6(11) by 1/2 "Pressed early, clipped heels midrace,
fell back."
6 GS Machi RUS (HRA) 04c/pl 7(11) by 4 "Pinched back at start, evenly
midpack throughout."
9 Aasifat GER (CCT) 04c/UR 8(11) by 1 "In close quarters toward rear early,
checked hard midrace in traffic, a bit rank."
5 Taqwa GER (EEP) 04f/UR 9(11) by 1 1/2 "Jumped out to contest the hot pace,
dropped back steadily after 500m."
3 Tykia GER (CCT) 04f/UR 10(11) by 1 "Comfortable midpack, faded through
stretch."
10 Golden Charm (CWA) 04f/UR 11(11) "Trailed throughout, mild late bid just
before the wire."

From the steward's stand: Favorite GS Nasongi made his first start in blinkers
today after finishing 8th of 8th in his debut in Russia in July--what a
difference! Decisive win today for this colt despite lots of traffic troubles
for almost everyone. Excellent try by US-bred Shifting Sands to sneak up the
rail. Previous race experience was definitely an asset today; don't get
discouraged if your first time starter didn't do as well as expected!

2. Maiden 3yo 1600mT 500 euros---200/150/100/50. Weights: colts 133#, fillies
127#. Winner: Bouteille FR, 2004 chestnut filly (Dent De Loup x Soleil Laisse,
Soleildansent) O/T: Emma Epps, B: Hydra Noir, France.

PP Name & info Place Spread Steward's Notes
5 Bouteille FR (EEP) 04f/plcd 1(11) by 1/2 "Midpack early, up through
traffic in turn, driving in stretch to prevail at wire."
4 Modem RUS (BGU) 04c plcd 2(11) by 3 1/2 "Relaxed just behind top 2 early,
passed leader at 1/2 mile pole to take lead briefly, dueled with winner in
stretch under a hard drive."
11 Silver Sky (CCT) 04f/up 3(11) by 1 1/2 "Set pace to 1/2, passed by top
two and couldn't regain lead but kept on to wire."
8 Tarentula [IRE] (BGU) 04f plcd 4(11) by 1 "Shut out of lead but fought her
way to the front in backstretch, tired a bit from the effort but held on to
4th."
3 Benbarran [IRE] (BGU) 04c upl @ 5(11) by 1/2 Mild closing bid from midpack
a bit early.
6 Tournee Soleil FR (CCT) 04c/up 6(11) by 3 1/2 "Best move too early,
flattened out a bit."
10 GS Nadrechye RUS (HRA) 04c/pl 7(11) by hd "Pressed early, faded badly
through stretch."
2 GS Paroboch RUS (HRA) 04c/up 8(11) by 4 1/2 "Ran toward rear throughout,
really moving as he came under the wire, needs more distance?"
1 GS Kabardatly RUS (HRA) 04c/up 9(11) by 2 "Pinched back on rail early,
forced wide throughout, no chance."
9 CRR Dontlookmargret RUS (HRA) 04f/pl 10(11) by 1/2 "In traffic midpack, no
move late."
7 Black Light USA (JPU) 04f/up 11(11) Dull effort throughout.

From the steward's stand: Excellent trainer's notes may have helped the bettors'
2nd choice Bouteille to the win today. Lots of these guys came off races at the
August 1st Moscow meet; quick turnaround time and travelling between countries
may have hurt some of these young horses today.

3. Maiden 4/u 2400mT 500 euros---200/150/100/50. Weights: 4yo 136#, 5/up 138#;

2 Arc-en-ciel FR (CCT) 03f/pl 2(7) by 8 Closing fastest in stretch to just
miss.
1 Zumurr GER (CCT) 03c/pl 3(7) by 2 "Dueled early with Dywan, put that one
away, led to stretch but overtaken by closers."
6 Dywan POL (BGU) 03c plcd 4(7) by 1/2 "Dueled early then dropped back to
midpack, found an untapped reserve late to keep ahead of SRF Shallal."
4 SRF Shallal EGY (JPU) 03f/pl 5(7) by 7 "Just behind pacesetters early, no
closing kick late."
7 Sabab [EGY] (BGU) 01c plcd 6(7) by 4 Evenly in rear of pack today.
3 Gold Enchanted IRE (CWA) 03f/unpl 7(7) "Trailed to stretch, tried to make
up ground very late but way out of reach."

From the steward's stand: Not a lot of horses had much experience at the
distance today, which was made evident by their retreat in the stretch.
Horrible dice rolls for Gold Enchanted, and great ones for long shot Zumurr.
Nice run by Dacus in his turf debut. Good effort by Arc-en-ciel as well.

5. Maple S 3yo 1800mT 3,000 euros---1200/900/600/300. Weights: Colts 140#,

4 Verify RUS (CCT) 04c/G2MSpW-CH @ 1(7) by 13! "Broke slowly, tucked in on
the rail midpack until turn, shot up to the lead and drew away in stretch."
3 Taquada [IRE] (BGU) 04f Sp 2(7) by 1 1/2 "Stalked Spektakl, took over in
stretch, best of rest."
2 Spektakl RUS (CCT) 04c/mw 3(7) by 1 1/2 "Pressed pace, took over when
leader tired but couldn't keep up with top 2."
6 GS Nartovo RUS (HRA) 04c/G3Sp 4(7) by 1 Closing well top of stretch but
couldn't maintain.
5 SRF Barrat Hanif EGY (JPU) 04c/mw 5(7) by 2 "Closed while wide around

turn, evenly thereafter."
1 Touterelle FR (CWA) 04f/UR 7(7) "Ran greenly throughout, will improve off
this one."

From the steward's stand: Very nice field of 3yos here! If your horse finished
up the track, don't fret--they'll surely do better next time in a maiden or
allowance! And holy man! Look at that winning margin! Candi, what are you
feeding him? ;-)

From the steward's stand: Top two were very well matched in this race.
