Well. It is my sad duty to report that the new forum is off to a rocky start.

Thus far, the measures I have employed to control spam have proven less than effective. I am frustrated with this in a large part because certain admin/moderator features do not seem to work at all. For example, banning an IP address mysteriously does not prevent further posts from IP that address. We must be using some esoteric definition of the word "ban" I haven't encountered before.

And of course, nobody is using the forum now, which I completely understand. Contaminated as it is by spam, I certainly wouldn't use it.

I don't have a world of time to engage with the technical side of this, but I will delve deeper and see what I can achieve over the coming week or so. If I still can't make any progress, I'm afraid I'll have to give it up for a bad job and try some other kind of community solution.
